If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and swims like a duck it has to be a duck.  Likewise, if it is $400 million in untraceable bills from multiple sources, delivered by an unmarked plane, and Americans are returned the same day it has to be a ransom.  I know you do not understand this so I tried to keep it as simple as possible.  To top it off it was my money and I was not asked!

I spent 20 plus years in the military protecting our country from communism and terrorism only to find out you went and stabbed me in the back.  There is no excuse, no apology, nor sadly, recourse when you perform acts of sabotage against the country as you have done.  You elite in Washington have decided common sense needs to be replaced by a new world order where “intellectuals” know better than the proletariat paying them.

A Simple Thing Called Flood Insurance

Mr. Curbelo,
A little history first, last year I called your office after you and the rest of the so called Republicans voted for Obama's spending bill. I told the young man who answered I was concerned nothing was done to curb the largess of the government and wanted to know why the "Republicans" did not hold the proverbial gun to the head of the administration in an attempt to lower spending and possibly balance the budget. I was told by this young man it would have had the possible outcome of shutting down the government. I told the young man if that is what it takes to get spending in check then so be it. The young man called me an anarchist as I was espousing a government shut down. I told the young man we as citizens are required to live within our means so why is the government who we give our hard earned money allowed to rack up trillions of dollars of debt. I received no answer.

Now to the present. I purchased my yearly flood insurance for my rental today and found a $250 surcharge to offset the subsidies you in government are giving to those who you believe need the money (and may possibly vote for you in some future election). The sad part is the surcharge is almost one and a half times the cost of my actual insurance. The PDF file does state the surcharge may only go away when the subsidies also disappear, but then it also states there are always mitigating circumstances and the surcharge may continue to offset future losses of a government run insurance venture (so there is no chance of it ever going away) and I will continue to pay for something I will never receive.

In closing, the anarchist from Key West is looking for the day when people are responsible for their lives and their actions, where politicians are more interested in preserving the country than their Office, and truth is never silenced because it may not be politically correct.

Rep Rips Offshore Rigs

Really Congresswoman,
Your concerned because Cuba is attempting to become energy independent from the Middle East? Just because we happen to be at the beck and call of the Crowned Prince of Saudi Arabia and our elected representative decides to bow to him does not mean other countries have to follow. Your breast beating does nothing but placate your voting base. You have done nothing to improve the situation in this country and you have no right to say what goes on in another country.

Madam, you have shown you do not understand what the world requires which, of course, is energy. You wring your hands when a dirt poor nation, albeit communist, attempts to pull itself out of a third world rating but you in Congress do nothing as our country slips into it as energy costs continue to climb.

Ma’am, you in Congress are idiots. I say that kindly but honestly. We have the energy, we have the technology to deliver it, and we have the people to fill the jobs required to manufacture equipment, fabricate pipe, drill, weld, build refineries, and put product at the pump. These same people will refill the tax coffers with the money you give away to entitlement receivers and occupiers. The only thing we don’t have is a spine in Washington to get the job done.

When Is a Promise Not a Promise...

To whom it may concern (obviously none of you…),

The plan to force the military to pay more for health care is no surprise. It is no surprise because you pay nothing for health care. It is no surprise because you believe we are not educated and we cling to our faith and our guns, which, unlike you, have not let us down. It is no surprise because you believe you know better than your lowly constituents/serfs/proletariat, your choice. It is no surprise because we have served our country quietly, and you think we have no voice, unlike the “occupiers” who are heralded as democracy in action.

We have paid for our health care with our service to the country. We have paid for our health care with our months and years away from home. Wwe have paid for our health care with our blood, our limbs, and for many, with our lives. Your efforts to reduce cost by giving it to those who have served and continue to serve go beyond the pale. You have no shame. You have no conscience. You have no god but the holy entitlement receiver who will get you back sucking on the teat of those who still pay taxes.

I recommend you look inward. You ask us to do much. We ask little in return. When will you require the rest of the citizens, including yourselves, to provide for those who protect this great nation? If history is any indication, you will weasel your way out of it as you always have in the past.

To whom it may concern (as if anyone reads this anymore),

As a practicing Catholic and a Knight of Columbus, what Comrade Obama and his Czars have just ruled regarding Obamacare and its’ takeover of the healthcare system tells me I must look elsewhere to practice my religion. On a regular basis we speak for the unborn to provide them the same rights your murderers and rapists on death row have. You have relegated the unborn to the position of a fly needing extermination because it is interfering with your lunch. Your continued onslaught on Christian religion is a telling story about the morals of this country and where they have gravitated to.

When did what I believe become an issue? It became an issue when it interfered with Comrade Obama’s takeover of my daily life. Who knows better than I what I should believe and practice? You, you who have guaranteed my child many years of poverty because of your fiscal irresponsibility? You, you who have bought votes with your promises of entitlements instead of employment opportunities? You, you who have given your RESPONSIBILITIES as elected representatives to administrators of regulations who stifle growth and ensure their own continued existence?

This country was founded on religious freedom and now this government is attempting to take it away. You have become an anathema to me. It has become a country of rights with no responsibility and a government whose motto should be “Whatever It Takes” instead of “In God We Trust”.

What is amazing to me is I spent twenty plus years in defense of the Constitution, including the Bill of Rights, and with the stroke of a pen my government has ensured the deaths of many at the hand of my religion. I commend you on the audacity of your actions and look forward apprehensively to your next onslaught on Christianity. Perhaps you will be able to label Christians as enemies of the State as we stand up against you because of our belief.

No Taxation Without Representation

Senator,
I have sat back for several months and not written any of my “elected” officials because I am disenchanted, no, angry, no, not even that, incredulous. I have written my representatives in Congress and the White House on numerous occasions, which you can review at http://musings-of-a-concerned-american.blogspot.com/, trying to explain my position and concerns. In return I have received platitudes and double speak. I will make this short. I am not being represented by my elected officials. I call and say I have no more money for you to borrow and you continue to borrow. I write and show how Obamacare is a takeover of our free market medical system (yes, I tried to read a good part of it) and it is voted in. I write stating we must close our borders to protect our nation and watch as we give illegals free medical and instate tuition, at my expense of course. I write expressing my concerns as to why we are not drilling for our own oil and not building refineries and watch as China is planning to drill between here in Key West and Cuba while we pay for your regulations preventing exploration, drilling, and transportation of oil. I request more power plants to provide for our power requirements in the future and am told I can no longer buy a 60 watt bulb but I must buy a mercury bulb to reduce my energy usage. I write explaining how the free market system increases the size of the pie and am told we must all sacrifice to provide for those less fortunate.

In short, those of us who are still paying taxes are being held in contempt by the establishment and their supporters because we are productive. You in Washington have lost touch with your constituents who actually pay you. If there was a way to stop paying taxes until you come to your senses I would do it… Oh wait, there is, I could occupy someplace and collect handouts. But alas, I cannot. I must continue to be part of the silent majority, at least for a little while longer, while what I defended for over twenty years is torn apart by those who want something for nothing.

It Is Time To Cut Up Your Card!

Senator Nelson,
I called your office this week to try and get a feel for how much is enough as it applies to the deficit. I asked your staffer what the magic number was, either in percent of GDP or a cap on the deficit where we can say this is how much we will ever borrow. Your employee began to give me your party line on empty business offices in Zurich and how we should close loopholes in the tax system. I pointed out that businesses do not spend tax dollars, the government does. I pointed out businesses invest their money in an attempt to develop, build , and sell their product and in the process they hire employees who are paid and pay taxes. I was told I wasn't smart enough to understand the underlying issues and I should get an MBA to learn about business ethics. I asked what ethics class Barney Frank attended when he developed the "No Unqualified Homeowner Left Behind" bill and I was told to call his office. I attempted to get the conversation back on point by suggesting the entitlements were the root cause of our financial mess. I even went so far as to tell your staffer I am the recipient of an entitlement due to a service connected disability and am willing to give up 10-15 percent to help shrink government. This was thrown back in my face and I was told I obviously could afford it but what about the majority who rely on we taxpayers for their daily bread (not an exact quote but implied). Your staffer then fell back on blaming big business and when I attempted to direct his attention to big unions he hung up on me.

Lessons learned from this phone call:
1. Do not call if you are a republican.
2. Do not call if you require a direct answer.
3. Do call if you want to be chastised and belittled by someone thirty years your junior.
4. Do call if you want to hear the Democrat talking points.
5. Do call if you want to be summarily hung up on.

In closing, if you, Senator Nelson, cannot even control your staffers' comments or emotions, how can I, just a taxpayer without an MBA, put any credence in what you are trying to do? The answer is I can't. From your staffer's answers and retorts it is quite evident you have become a Senator for hire, answerable to only those who live to vote and sadly, paid by the dwindling number of us who live to work.

When Is Just One Enough?

Governor,
Senator Nelson asked me to write you my opinion of the proposed law winding its way through the Tallahassee legislature regarding voter registration. I do not believe he expected me to be for the implementation of the law.

Having voted in states from California to Florida, not at the same time of course, I have never had a problem registering or voting. The law being proposed will limit nothing for a Florida resident. On the other hand, it will limit the abuse of multiple registrations and votes therefore my vote will have more weight.

The era of "vote early, vote often" must come to an end. I cannot afford otherwise. Please sign this bill as soon as it hits your desk and standby for heavy rolls as the left try and retain their majority of invisible voters on the backs of everyday Florida tax payers.

Simple Math for the Simpletons

Just filled my tank... Let's see, I make nine dollars an hour. Multiply that times eight hours a day. Hmmm, that's seventy two dollars a day which is exactly what I put in my tank. Gee, I just spent a day's wages filling the tank so I can go to work for two weeks, so one tenth of my wages is lining the pocket of some foreigner because my government refuses to drill for oil in my country.

Note to self...
If drilling for oil, our oil not Brazil's, is not on the ticket of the candidate, regardless of his/her political persuasion, he/she is causing the destruction of our country.

I wonder if anyone important ever listens... Naah, if they had been we wouldn't be fourteen plus trillion in debt and waiting for the Obamacare axe to fall.

Let's See If They Are Listening...

Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen,
I read this morning you Republicans in Congress are giving away "your ace in the hole". I wish I was amazed at your lack of spine but in recent years you have turned into a bowl of mush when it comes to standing up to the people who have ratcheted up the speed at which our once great country becomes a big Venezuela. You in Congress have lost your way. Your job is to limit government so we the people have the freedom to pursue our goals as best we can. Instead, you have limited our freedom and in doing so have ensured the ever increasing size of government as you control our every move. It is truly time for you to go.

But I digress. As you work for me, for a little while longer anyway, do not let the Democrats take you down the same road again! If you really do not have a plan B then may I suggest presenting a budget just for next year with no more than the 2008 amount. This may show your constituents you are actually not a Democrat with a different hat.

Finally, if you re-grow your skeletal support, go into default when the Dems refuse your budget. If nothing else it will get your credit rating down and then maybe I can make some money from the money I have saved living within my means.

Another Assault on the Second Ammendment

Congresswoman Adams,
As you are directly involved with H.R. 308 and whether or not it reaches the floor please accept my humble input. As a military veteran I can say unequivocally I never went into a hostile environment with half a ship full of shells and missiles or a half full torpedo room, yes I was both a surface and submarine sailor. In this case the hostile environment comes to us in our homes and places of business. Do not allow this law to reach the floor. You will be not restricting a criminal's ability to acquire large capacity magazines but you will restrict my ability to protect my family by removing weapons from use or preventing them to be used to their fullest potential.

As a member of the House Judiciary Committee you have the ability to stand up for the law abiding citizens of your state. Please do so!

Just a footnote, as a member of Congress could you please present a bill to close down the federally run gated communities and turn them back into prisons? Some would think we are providing criminals with a comfortable respite between crimes. And as an added bonus the criminal may think twice before committing multiple crimes.

A Quick Note to NPR Chief Schiller

Ms. Schiller,
Really, it took you less than 48 hours to decide to can Juan you can't determine whether you screwed up just off the cuff? You feel it is necessary to have a "...thorough review of all aspects of our performance in this instance, a process that will continue in the coming days and weeks."

Answer these questions, Ms. Schiller. Have you ever had to dress in a full Burqa against your will, Ms. Schiller? Have you had your education denied to you because you are a female, Ms. Schiller? Have you ever willingly killed your daughter because she may have dishonored you, Ms. Schiller? Have you got a clue as to what is going on, Ms. Schiller?

Until you answer yes to all four questions, Ms. Schiller, I would recommend you not act on what others say about Muslims or their religion. Discourse is exactly what is required at this moment in history. Silencing others for their thoughts and words, that is what you have done, has never bode well for humanity.

In closing, you have placed yourself with the Muslims by silencing Juan. Oh yeah, except the part where they kill you instead of fire you for telling the truth about Mohammed or his religion. Not yet, anyway.

Really Barry... We Have To Work With You???

Quick note to Barry,
Just read you think Republicans have to work with you when they win back the House and maybe even Senate... Just so you know, they are OUR elected officials and you will have to work with them!

As you are a progressive (I read communist) you will probably not understand this. I recommend you talk to the new Speaker of the House as soon as possible to get schooled on how things work when you no longer have a super majority.

It seems a shame that a couple of pollsters and one News Organization toppled your house of cards. Oops, that's right, it toppled under the weight of all the lies and deceit you and your party have tried to hand America. You and your kind belong in some third world country, perhaps Venezuela, where you can really control what the people see and hear.

And Then He Said...

Dear Mr. Rodda:

Thank you for contacting me regarding tax provisions that expire this year.

I support tax cuts that are fair, equitable, and contribute to economic growth. At the same time, I believe we must be fiscally responsible when considering any proposal that could significantly impact the Federal budget. We must not allow emergency spending and outdated subsidies to continue indefinitely. Too often, special interests have hijacked Congressional tax and spending bills for their own gain, at the expense of everyone else.

I firmly believe we should implement sound fiscal policies that will help reduce our nation's $13 trillion debt. In January, the Congressional Budget Office estimated the national debt would increase by more than $6 trillion over the next 10 years. Full extension of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts would add an additional $3 trillion to the debt over the same period. These deficit projections threaten the stability and security of the U.S. economy.

The President has proposed permanently extending the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts for individuals making less than $200,000 a year and married couples making less than $250,000. He has also proposed permanently extending tax relief from the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT). The AMT is increasingly hitting middle-class taxpayers because, unlike the regular income tax, the AMT rates are not indexed for inflation.

Unfortunately, political partisanship has made meaningful deficit reduction and tax reform extremely difficult to achieve. That’s why I supported the creation of the bipartisan National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform. The commission is comprised of private citizens and elected officials from across the political spectrum who are tasked with recommending solutions to the nation’s long-term fiscal challenges, including changes to tax and spending policies. I am hopeful their recommendations will jump start a real debate on how to improve the nation’s fiscal outlook.

I have long championed efforts to provide tax relief for middle-class Americans, and I will continue to support legislation that helps Florida families and small businesses through this difficult time. I am glad that you took the time to send me your thoughts. Be assured that I will keep your views in mind when these matters come before the Senate.

Taxes, Taxes, and More Taxes

Barry says my taxes are not going up. Here is a brief of what is coming down the pike. What say you, senator?

In just six months, the largest tax hikes in the history of America will take effect. They will hit families and small businesses in three great waves on January 1, 2011:

First Wave:
Expiration of 2001 and 2003 Tax Relief

In 2001 and 2003, the GOP Congress enacted several tax cuts for investors, small business owners, and families. These will all expire on January 1, 2011:
Personal income tax rates will rise. The top income tax rate will rise from 35 to 39.6 percent (this is also the rate at which two-thirds of small business profits are taxed). The lowest rate will rise from 10 to 15 percent. All the rates in between will also rise. Itemized deductions and personal exemptions will again phase out, which has the same mathematical effect as higher marginal tax rates. The full list of marginal rate hikes is below:
The 10% bracket rises to an expanded 15%
The 25% bracket rises to 28%
The 28% bracket rises to 31%
The 33% bracket rises to 36%
The 35% bracket rises to 39.6%

Higher taxes on marriage and family. The “marriage penalty” (narrower tax brackets for married couples) will return from the first dollar of income. The child tax credit will be cut in half from $1000 to $500 per child. The standard deduction will no longer be doubled for married couples relative to the single level. The dependent care and adoption tax credits will be cut.

The return of the Death Tax.
This year, there is no death tax. For those dying on or after January 1 2011, there is a 55 percent top death tax rate on estates over $1 million. A person leaving behind two homes and a retirement account could easily pass along a death tax bill to their loved ones.

Higher tax rates on savers and investors. The capital gains tax will rise from 15 percent this year to 20 percent in 2011. The dividends tax will rise from 15 percent this year to 39.6 percent in 2011. These rates will rise another 3.8 percent in 2013.

Second Wave:
National Health Care

There are over twenty new or higher taxes in Obamacare. Several will first go into effect on January 1, 2011. They include:
The “Medicine Cabinet Tax”
Thanks to Obamacare, Americans will no longer be able to use health savings account (HSA), flexible spending account (FSA), or health reimbursement (HRA) pre-tax dollars to purchase non-prescription, over-the-counter medicines (except insulin).

The “Special Needs Kids Tax”.
This provision of Obamacare imposes a cap on flexible spending accounts (FSAs) of $2500 (Currently, there is no federal government limit). There is one group of FSA owners for whom this new cap will be particularly cruel and onerous: parents of special needs children. There are thousands of families with special needs children in the United States, and many of them use FSAs to pay for special needs education.

Tuition rates at one leading school that teaches special needs children in Washington , D.C. ( National Child Research Center ) can easily exceed $14,000 per year. Under tax rules, FSA dollars cannot be used to pay for this type of special needs education.

The HSA Withdrawal Tax Hike.
This provision of Obamacare increases the additional tax on non-medical early withdrawals from an HSA from 10 to 20 percent, disadvantaging them relative to IRAs and other tax-advantaged accounts, which remain at 10 percent.

Third Wave:
The Alternative Minimum Tax and Employer Tax Hikes:

When Americans prepare to file their tax returns in January of 2011, they’ll be in for a nasty surprise—the AMT won’t be held harmless, and many tax relief provisions will have expired. The major items include:

The AMT will ensnare over 28 million families, up from 4 million last year. According to the left-leaning Tax Policy Center , Congress’ failure to index the AMT will lead to an explosion of AMT taxpaying families—rising from 4 million last year to 28.5 million. These families will have to calculate their tax burdens twice, and pay taxes at the higher level. The AMT was created in 1969 to ensnare a handful of taxpayers.

Small business expensing will be slashed and 50% expensing will disappear. Small businesses can normally expense (rather than slowly-deduct, or “depreciate”) equipment purchases up to $250,000. This will be cut all the way down to $25,000. Larger businesses can expense half of their purchases of equipment. In January of 2011, all of it will have to be “depreciated.”

Taxes will be raised on all types of businesses. There are literally scores of tax hikes on business that will take place. The biggest is the loss of the “research and experimentation tax credit,” but there are many, many others. Combining high marginal tax rates with the loss of this tax relief will cost jobs.

Tax Benefits for Education and Teaching Reduced.
The deduction for tuition and fees will not be available. Tax credits for education will be limited. Teachers will no longer be able to deduct classroom expenses. Coverdell Education Savings Accounts will be cut. Employer-provided educational assistance is curtailed. The student loan interest deduction will be disallowed for hundreds of thousands of families.

Charitable Contributions from IRAs no longer allowed. Under current law, a retired person with an IRA can contribute up to $100,000 per year directly to a charity from their IRA. This contribution also counts toward an annual “required minimum distribution.” This ability will no longer be there.


I just want to thank you for reaching into my pocket and removing my hard earned income to pay those who will vote for you in 2012. I did not know what to do with the money so your quick action has prevented me from worrying too much. Thank you for your interest in my welfare. Oh wait, it's not my welfare you are interested in, is it senator?

BP (Barely Plausible)

Mr. Obama,

I see you have chastised BP for "nickel and diming" the gulf coast population while advertising what they are accomplishing in spill cleanup and containment. If I might point out a couple of items requiring your attention.

BP is actually doing something while you are just blaming something.

BP is paying for its' view of the spill while you rely on the media you carry around in your pocket to present your agenda.

BP is attempting to clean up and stop the spill with its' limited resources while the governor of Louisiana screams for federal permission and assistance, and gets a limited response.

BP is providing monetary assistance to those directly affected by the spill while all you can say is somebody is going to pay.

In closing Mr. Obama, I live on the island of Key West where all the oil still floating has to pass when it makes its' way out to the Atlantic. I am looking forward to seeing you down here blaming BP for their ineptitude and telling me you are in charge. I will be wondering though, while BP attempted to clean up where the oil is, why weren't you attempting to protect the areas in its path?

Boots on the Ground? Not So's You'd Notice!

Mr. Obama,
So let me repeat this to make sure I am getting it straight. The people wearing the uniforms with helmets and bullet proof armor are going to be sitting at a border crossing holding a broom to clean up after any trash spilled out of a freshly inspected car, while the people in trousers and button down shirts driving Government Motors SUV's are out getting shot at with high-powered weapons.

Truly sir, are you an idiot? Your responsibility is not to placate our neighbor to the south by letting his countrymen into our country so they can send our dollars south to bolster his country. The border is the border and it is your responsibility to close it. You find it easier to take our choices and our hard earned income to give to your voter base. No other country on earth has a more open border or more to lose as OTM's come streaming across.

Mr. Obama you are ignorant of the needs of your country but quite knowledgeable of those who would see us fail. Your words are loud and clear and are being repeated throughout this country. Too bad the fundamental change you are expecting is not going to be the one which occurs.

Gun Rights? We Don't Need No Stinking Gun Rights!

I am writing in regards to a recent Reuter's article which can be found at http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsNews/idUSTRE59E0Q920091015. It appears the Anointed One, who tried to stop a busted well by just uttering a few words, is going to do away with one of our Constitutional Rights by throwing it under the international bus. Do not the voice of the American People have a say in this? The right to keep and bear "conventional" arms comes with the implied right to purchase said arms.

Your continued erosion of rights will undoubtedly lead to renaming our once great country to The Utopian States of America (Hey look, we can still call it USA!) where I can look to the government instead of God for my daily bread. On the other hand, as you in Washington slowly, methodically, and painfully remove our rights under the guise of "we are just trying to make your life better and safer", please remember what always occurs when government refuses to listen to the people. Health Care For All, Yippee! (Just Give Me Your Change)

Regarding HR 3590 as amended:

SEC. 9002. INCLUSION OF COST OF EMPLOYER-SPONSORED HEALTH COVERAGE ON W-2.

(a) In General- Section 6051(a) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (relating to receipts for employees) is amended by striking `and' at the end of paragraph (12), by striking the period at the end of paragraph (13) and inserting `, and', and by adding after paragraph (13) the following new paragraph:

(14) the aggregate cost (determined under rules similar to the rules of section 4980B(f)(4)) of applicable employer-sponsored coverage (as defined in section 4980I(d)(1)), except that this paragraph shall not apply to--

• (A) coverage to which paragraphs (11) and (12) apply, or
• (B) the amount of any salary reduction contributions to a flexible spending arrangement (within the meaning of section 125).

(b) Effective Date- The amendments made by this section shall apply to taxable years beginning after December 31, 2010.
